The main route is 98 km road to River Port. Then to Barging. Alternative route is Pit 3 to Krajan River Port then via truck loaded barge to Main River Port and transferred to larger barges via a 120 tonne crane with 6 tonne grab.
In both cases, the larger barges travel about 300 km down river to Buntok (BHP had a river Port at this point) to another miner's Port. From that point it is loaded onto sea going barges 8,000 to 12,000 tonnes about 280 km down river and out to sea to transshipment area and loaded onto ships via floating cranes.
About 40 of my Indonesian relatives operate these floating cranes or the ships cranes.
This is a long logistics chain but the only way out.
