It's very heavily taxed. On racing you've got turnover tax of about 2%, plus GST at 10% of revenue point of consumption tax at 10-15% of revenue. That's about 1/3 of potential profit going in fees/taxes, before the 30% NPAT is imposed on whatever profit remains after marketing costs, wages and IT expenditure.
