Hi Nutsy.  That is sadly a not so uncommon story of people losing their valuable samples because the fridge/freezer failed.  In itself, the bluechiip technology could not save those samples as on its own, it is a "passive" device meaning it will only sense the temperature when it comes into the field/range of the reader.  HOWEVER if it were built into the fridge, freezer or liquid nitrogen tank as we were looking at doing and speaking with the suppliers of this equipment (see recent announcement re Taylor Wharton), then it could act more as an active sensor an ddetect the temperature on regular pre-determined intervals.  If the individual sample went above a pre-set temperature, then they could determine which samples had been contravened and thus needed to be disposed of whereas some may have been salvageable.  Rather than losing all 20k, maybe some of these valuable samples could have been saved.  Imagine if this is a clinical trial? Or an IVF lab? Risk? Litigation? You can't afford not to have a system like bluechiip - that's where things will head in good time.  Once momentum gains and word gets out, it had every chance of becoming the "gold standard".  I think there is some good data on the company's website if you register your details at http://bluechiip.com/white-papers-and-trials/.  One of the newer movements in the US is called CAP accreditation which is all about quality.
