MUFG owns 20%+ of MS and 100% of FS and from these announcements MUFG/MS/FS are buying shares and through various agreements with MS and funds are allowing funds to borrow shares to short.
Sortman is reporting approx 118m BPT shares short, this announcement puts the holding at 114m.
I haven't gone through to count the amount lent out but in any case because MUFG/MS/FS are acquiring the shares in the first place are they long? Or is there something I'm missing where MUFG/MS/FS aren't actually long BPT themselves and are just brokering for the shorts with other parties taking on the long risk?
