    Maybe this has something to do with it... see excerpt from Wikipedia regards Brazil having topped the worlds aluminium can recycling rate for the last 8 years in a row at 98.2%.

    Only a short trip across the border from Columbia to Brazil and I imagine anyone in the region has dealings with Brazil in one way or another being one of the main industrial centres for South America. Given the amount of Aluminium recycled there must be some secondary smelting happening there somewhere IMO?
