If as you say it is mandatory to report short trades to the exchange then I can only assume the short sold data provided by the ASX and ASIC and disseminated by shortman is accurate. If so the apparent discrepancy between reported short sales of SRX shares compared with the number disclosed in substantial shareholder notices, over 8% of the issued capital in the two latest notices from NAB and UBS as held with "power to control disposal pursuant to stock borrowing and lending activities", must be explained by my apparently incorrect assumption that this refers to shares borrowed for short selling purposes. It occurs to me now that it may mainly refer to holdings under margin lending arrangements and that I have been looking for a relationship where there is none.
