Barron’s note on European e-commerce trends; City sells via Zalando

”Retailers have gotten a boost from lower return rates, with Zalando for example, benefiting to the tune of €100 million ($118 million) in fiscal year 2020, notes Citi. That is chiefly down to the fact online companies have shifted products toward items that see fewer returns—leisurewear and beauty products—and away from those that are returned more often, such as occasionwear.E-commerce retailers have also been able to count on newer customers, who tend to return less than existing ones, and male clients who keep more goods than female customers. Citi analysts said the benefit of the customer mix shift will probably play out for the next 12 to 24 months.”
