The short sales are reported T+4 days after so I am not sure what you are looking at. Maybe gross short estimate? This is all short movements reported which by the way is voluntary and usually complete misinformation. I have tracked it against the T+4 data and it is highly uncorrelated. Even the T+4 data is shaky-looking when graphed over time.
It will take a week to see what today's short amount is and the trend will take longer still.
