Rio Tinto urged to enter gold business, make play for Newcrest
Deutsche Bank analysts are urging Rio Tinto to enter the gold business and use its recent market run to target Australian-listed Newcrest Mining Ltd. with an all-share offer, The Australian reported. Newcrest has "features complementary to Rio Tinto's business model, structure and strategy," Deutsche Bank analyst James Gurry wrote in a note. The move would also increase Rio Tinto's listing and overall portion of Australian ownership to 35% from 23%, the analyst added.
