The latest three announcements in relation to Vanguard Group’ change of substantial holding provide their transaction details for the period from 22 Feb 21 to 17 Sep 21.
I have summarised those transactions in the following Pivot Tables.
At the beginning of the period, Vanguard had about 28 mil shares. It is reasonable to assume that the average cost of these shares is at least $2.70. The exact cost can probably be worked out from earlier announcements.
From 22 Feb 21 to 17 Sep 21, Vanguard Group purchased about 15.8 mil shares (10.8 mil placement and 5 mil on market) and sold about 5.7 mil shares (5.4 mil via in-specie-transfer and merely 0.3 mil on market). The net result is an increase of 10 mil shares @ average cost of $2.679.
Based on the above, we can comfortably estimate that the average cost of Vanguard’s 38 mil shares (5.05%) would be close to $2.70 if not more. It is very noticeable that Vanguard has been accumulating in the past couple of months.
