Shorts have been fairly high (6-7.5% of issued capital) for much of the past 6 months already. I would say during that time there has been quite a lot of negative news for them to work with, class actions etc., more modest growth forecasts etc.

However, the SP is much the same as it was 6 months ago, with perhaps around a 15% fluctuation in either direction. Who knows what is truly going on behind the scenes but to me, it doesn't seem like shorting has been particularly influential in driving the SP down, probably more that they have contributed to it remaining in a kind of holding pattern (which can also be profitable as they trade on what volatility remains).

It seems a lot of the volatility has gone out of the stock for now, which one would think makes it less appealing for shorting going forward. Exhibit A being the reaction to yesterday's update, which is probably the first time the stock hasn't plunged after management pokes their heads up... I have not seen much analyst coverage since yesterday, but the few I've seen or heard seem unconcerned about the stock even if they are also less than excited about growth prospects in the short term.
