Isn't this just a custodian issue.
I'm an Australian living in America, and when we buy shares we don't use CHESS so our broker owns them but is a custodian for us. It's called "street name".
I think these are just traders using BoA/MS accounts.
My custodian is BNP Paribas, so when i buy, it shows as them buying.
