I don't think they are very cost competitive at all - certainly not without huge taxpayer subsidies. Still not reliable when the sun don't shine and the wind don't blow.
Have a look at what is happening in Germany and the UK right now. Renewables not an ounce of help. Prices rising sharply. Let's see how much renewables help out when Russian gas is cut off.
