Ignore it mate. They are just a custodian holding stock for a vast number of clients. And some of those clients will be allowing their stock to be lent out with the small interest rate return helping to offset their custody fees.
State Street clearly have a heap of loaned stock going out and coming back in all the time...so if some who is short buys the stock back they would then return the loaned securities (cos they no longer need it), which looks like SS are buying. They are not.
But short covering could be happening generally, and certainly looked like it today.
