The kind of compensation claimants would get is a pittance of what they would have lost, and I doubt it would have any material impact on the company.
If it actually goes to judgement, the trouble is that I think it would be very difficult to establish the claims against A2M to the standard of proof required for shareholders to receive any payout. The suit against Myer a few years back is the key precedent. In that case, there was actually a ruling against Myer that it engaged in misleading / deceptive conduct, but the court also found insufficient evidence that the conduct resulted in damages to shareholders that they would not have incurred otherwise.
It is a bit baffling but seems to be multiple hurdles that need to be satisfied in order for participants to actually see any payout, so in reality a settlement would probably be better for everyone.
