Alternate viewpoint with a couple of provisos,

and upfront disclosure: this might not be well received, but please don't bite my head off, before you've properly considered it.

Provided that:

1) the business doesn't have funding / liquidity issues, such that short sellers' actions could trigger underlying debt / funding covenants and thus damage the underlying business; and

2) the individual investor isn't funding through margin loans, or utilising trailing stop losses;

then the short sellers with their periodic attacks, are providing opportunities to accumulate ever increasing positions in quality companies at bargain basement prices.

If we can't change the rules (which we can't), then we can at least play them at their own games.

And yes, I know we all love to log on and see our stocks have gone up each day.
