I don't know much about State Street but it reminds me of Regal joining the WGO register. Price definitely retreated from their initial purchases until such time as the takeover offer arrived. They were eventually quite a big player in that with 8-9% which they sold to Gina.
It was a massive win win for them by lending out to shorts and then eventually making a significant return on their investment with the eventual takeover.
I don't know much about State Street but it reminds me of Regal...
