Irone dome is missile defense. Houthi, Hamas, Hezbolla, missiles and drones etc.
Think Lebanon 1992, Egypt 1972, Six day war 1967....these are the kind of conflicts that the Israeli air force is designed for. Attack, yes, but really defensive attack if that makes sense.
The Tankers would need to be either over Iraq or Syria or both but when they refuel the jets they are vulnerable to surface to air, or air to air (ie enemy jets) missile attack. They must refuel at tanker speed.
