Yep typical hedge strategy, but they're usually net long overall, even when shorting specific names, and this appears to be a long position (UniSuper's ~5.1% long via the fund > current cumulative 3.0% short which I highly doubt is entirely Regal, possibly not at all).
The recent increase in shorts is likely tied to 300 inclusion. Some take a probability-based approach, assuming newer or earlier stage businesses carry higher execution risk. Many aren't grounded in deep fundamentals, especially in biotech. In BOT's case, I believe they've misjudged the opportunity.
