In a recent AFR article on Pembroke expanding its Olive Downs BB mine, it was noted: Australia accounts for half of the world’s metallurgical coal supplies. Pembroke forecasts a long-term price rise for metallurgical coal driven by a global crunch in supply due to a depletion of ageing Australian mines and growing Indian and South-East Asian demand... Since commencing operations in April, the mine has shipped 2.8 million tonnes of coal. Pembroke said it will use the extra cash to double shipments from 6 million tonnes to 12 million tonnes per annum. Industry Department figures show the federal government expects Australian exports of steelmaking coal to rise from 153 Mt in 2024 to 177 Mt in 2026. More met coal being mined in the Bowen Basin + harsher Safeguard Mechanism penalties = Increased miner focus on lowering waste methane & incentive to work with QPM Energy.
