Mark my words, Tesla won't need 1 million tones of graphite for 1 TWh factory.
I don't mean to rant down NVX, the market will probably need all the graphite that is produced, just keep in mind these things:
- natural graphite is cheaper and greener to produce than synthetic
- battery manufacturers (or even anode producers) mix different anode materials together to get to their performance and also price targets
- it takes a lot of time to evaluate a performance aspect, because you can't just measure the purity of graphite like you would in the cathode material.
Current situation is that synthetic graphite is the safe choice because it has been used for many many years and it's proven. But do keep in mind that competition is testing many different types of materials that are getting better and better evaluation. Anyone listened to Benchmark Week monday the last session?
As I'm too lazy, what is the cost of production pureGraphite, I can't seem to find it?
