This patent granted in Japan is good news. I wonder why it is such an issue for the US. I guess BLT wouldn't be wasting so much money defending this patent if it wasn't worth it, so we must wait, and wait and wait. Pfizer triggering the option to develop and commercialize TT-033 was huge, but has made little difference to the sp. If Benitec's technology can be used to cure many illnesses in the future, I can only imagine how much it would be worth. Unfortunately, big pharmas don't want cures to be found for chronic conditions because it makes their drugs used to 'manage' the conditions redundant and profits go way down. How much do you think Benitec's technology and patents would be worth to them? Being able to use this technology selectively would be of utmost importance to big pharma.
