You can still see the remnants of the Smelters and Roasting Ovens at Bethanga, I believe it was the Arsenic, Bismuth and Antimony that finally beat them when the effects of the polluted run-off from the slag dumps started to become apparent in the Hume Dam. A similar reason why they eventually shut down the dredging operations at Mitta and Sandy Creek.

The Mitta/Mt Wills Field is totally different as the ore was much cleaner, the Mitta/Tallandoon batteries recorded over 80,000ozs from quartz crushing up until 1914. Which puts those Oppy references into question; remembering that that DNRE assessment was produced at a time when the Victorian Government were frantically trying to discourage an further mine development !

I will stick to my original comment, I find it strange that the Company failed to include a short History of the Bethanga field in their initial announcement ? especially when they then reference other fields hundreds of kilometers away !
