re: Ann: BHP Billiton and Petrohawk Announce ... Extracting hydrocarbons from shale is very inefficient, costly, messy and CO2 intensive. Put simply, if you have coal, you would not even consider mining shale for energy.
IMO, the money could have been better spent on a coal liquefaction plant. Oh! that's right - the Aus gov intends taxing coal mining out of business in Aus - so may as well mine shale in another country.
