In simple terms, as I am no expert, Iluka had a part interest in the non-producing MAC and they sold their share to BHP for deferred royalties. Now it is one of BHP's most productive tenements, has room for further expansion and has another 25 good years ahead.
Iluka spun off the royalty into standalone listed DRR.
