From a technical point of view - The commercial foundry has manufactured the gFETs on a WHOLE wafer run. Which is a major tick of quality. However there's still work to do with adding more functionality, optimising design, add more advanced sensing regions. At some point have to call a halt to tweaks, and that's down to whomever is directing development.
Subtext : a whole wafer run is only accepted by a foundry when they're satisfied that the quality is good enough to dedicate a whole wafer to it. Before this stage there was a MULTIPROJECT wafer run, where the AXE gFETs had to share wafer space with other test devices. Multi wafer is very much a testing phase run. ... a whole wafer run indicates the gFET design is viable for commercial production. This run has produced gFETs to the expected specs and are also compatible with the overall Bio chip platform according to this announcement.
From a commercial point of view - ditto the above as far as production runs and availability of these gFETS with 'ARCHER' stamped on them is concerned.
From a monetising strategy point of view - We have not been told any specific labs or biotech companies that AXE may be collaborating with. The only partners mentioned are foundry partners - Netherlands for WFW, Germany for a MPW. Is AXE going to sell these chips to biotech companies via foundries? or accept delivery of these from foundries and incorporate them in the Bio chip platform? or Both? .....
'deliver these chips using a streamlined fabless commercialization model' is what this announcement is saying the goal is.
