Yes, this was what I had always interpreted this activity to be. The minimal thing you could do to placate green activists so you could point to something to show you’re ‘taking action’ so that they would hopefully focus on other companies that were doing nothing at all. There’s quite a few oil and gas companies big and small doing ‘green projects’ for this reason.

The last thing you wanted was them taking you or the government to court over some permit that should not have been granted due to environmental or heritage grounds etc. Right or wrong it could be costly in time and money if activists chose you as a target.

Not a lot of money was spent on it, which is why no one here really complained that I can recall, I think most recognised it for what it was. I don’t think it was wasteful, it served its purpose. Now the company is getting prepped for a sale, divestment of various pieces in the lead up to the main sale is expected.
