SA Mining minister is closing the door on further applications for Bird in Hand. Opportunity for successful legal action to mine appears to be much lower. IMO

Bird in Hand Gold Project Proclamation

Terramin Australia Limited (ASX: TZN) (Terramin) advises that it has received information that the Governor of South Australia on the advice of the South Australian Minister for Energy and Mining, Mr Tom Koutsantonis, has issued a proclamation under Section 8 of the Mining Act which prevents future mining applications for mineral area covered by the Bird in Hand Gold Project (BIHGP).

This action by the South Australian Government follows its refusal on 8 February 2023 to grant Terramin’s application for a Mining Lease and a Miscellaneous Purposes Licence (the Mining Licences) in respect of the BIHGP.

These actions by the South Australian Government are contrary to the recommendation in an assessment report prepared by South Australian Department for Energy and Mining (DEM) which indicated that DEM supported the granting of the Mining Licences in respect of the BIHGP. The conclusion by DEM in their assessment report is not a surprise as Terramin’s application was supported by comprehensive studies based on science, which demonstrated that there would be no adverse environmental or socio-economic outcomes arising from Terramin’s mining proposal. These studies were peer reviewed by independent and Government experts over many years. Terramin has not been made aware of any issues with the methodology or conclusions of these studies.

To date, Terramin has not received an adequate explanation for the decision by the Minister and continues to pursue strategies to resolve the matter.
