Here is the problem with patents. Lawyers. Orville and Wilbur were frustrated when their patent over anything that flew was constantly thwarted by others making modifications and filing another patent. The series of Law suits almost bankrupted them, and they never got a cent.
Plus all those annual fees.
The only solution is finding the thief's competitor and get them to fund you instead and let them stump up the cash for the fight.
