The petroleum reserves in Mexico and the world are mainly heavy and extra-heavy crude oils, it is estimated that the unconventional crude oil reserves account for around 70% of the world's energy resources derived from fossil fuels

(important piece from the above "REFINING MARGIN CAN BE BIGGER +HIGHER PROFITS PER BBL"!!!!!)

The classification of crude oils according to the above properties are light (° API> 22, Viscosity <100 mPa s), heavy (° API 10–22, viscosity> 100 mPa s) and extra heavy (° API <10, Viscosity> 10 000 mPa s . Heavy crude oil refers to high viscosity and low API gravity oil.

Todays ann MAY stated >> Oil quality appears to be similar to Unit 1. Samples being analysed.(so not 100% confirmed to be 11.7API like the A1 samples ... could well be higher APi etc ...we will know more soon enough)

So to date MAY have tested 1A and Unit 3.. more to come 1B Unit 2 ... I's say very likely more Heavy oil not end of the world ... but just look at those HUGE deeper structures "Alameda" + Marti"

OIL samples from the past from BLOCK-9

    Gaudi-1 24.5Api

    Bolanos -1 22Api

(recent ann ... looking forward to how much different the oil density in 1B )
There is an oil column in Unit 1A which is separated by a seal from Unit 1B which has
a substantial oil column with a different oil density to that seen in Unit 1A

To those that think Cuban heavy oil can't flow ....(MAY's Amistad looking very "Varadero like 10.5-14.3APi)

The Varadero heavy oil field recovered 76.80% of its total recoverable reserves, with peak production in 2015. The peak production was approximately 31,490 bpd of crude oil and condensate. Based on economic assumptions, production will continue until the field reaches its economic limit in 2059. The field currently accounts for approximately 50% of the country’s daily output.

    It is estimated that >
the production cost of a barrel of oil
from offshore platforms in Cuba is
    about $20-35, while the production
cost of oil produced from inland oil
    elds is $13-15/bbl
