I grew up in a family that's science focused, my old man worked for Exxonmobil and my sister is a metallurgist. I have had family friends that worked in the industry and told me about technical stuff and I have studied geophysics/geology completing half of the course before lock downs and family issues occurred. I have also been an investor for 25 years in energy and mining.
I understand and know enough to have a good grasp of issues. I do intend to do more studies particularly in the oil/gas space.
You don't necessarily need experience to know this stuff, there are sources of information out there.
