Changes are afoot. The US experiment was basically a free kick for the previous owners at the expense of investors in the float. It didn't come off. Abandoning it will save $6 million per year which goes straight to the bottom line. They clearly want to be a major player in Australia and are looking for acquisitions. Possibly Play Up or Unibet, who might be looking to exit the Australian market?
