Well, firstly BLG still qualifies more as an R&D company at this stage, since we are not yet manufacturing at scale, and virtually all revenue is coming from various R&D grants and R&D contracts.

Also, although diode lasers are technically semiconductors, it is not what most people think of when applying the term. The device has just one PN junction (albeit a high tech one), whereas even a LED light bulb probably has hundreds, and most chips have at least millions, if not billions, of junctions and gates.
