For something in demand (eg spod), gaining a reputation as a seller who may not take the next shipment through to auction by instead accepting pre-auction bids can cause the bidders to have to stump up a knock out “bid” prior to an actual auction. Not unusual tactic and very effective in this sort of market.
PLS know their market well - the true “value” of the BMX is not the auctioning, it’s the data of who is willing to bid what for how much and when…
