Historically when the Fed has raised rates to combat inflation the interest rate ( fed find rate ) has ALWAYS without exception reached higher than the inflation rate . One can only imagine if that happened this time it would be Armageddon, so I believe we will see an historical shift from the Fed or it will be tits up for everyone , which is in juxposition with the Fed mantra as always being the last backstop of the financial markets and as Greenspan's famous quote the day after the 87 crash that the Fed is always willing to support the financial system , can't have it both ways
