He still carries duties as a director of the company. I'm not worried about the move to contact management as a sign he's half a foot out the door. The last Brad was on contact also and I personally like tension between the board and the CEO. Too many companies have a weak board instilled by the CEO and make poor strategic choices accordingly.
This is a interesting time for the company. Obviously it's a change and something has instigated it but I wouldn't read into it too much without more information. There's just too many reasons this could have happened. My guess is that major shareholders agitated for it for the reasons I outlined above.
