If you were around in the 1980s you could have bought Czarist (Russian ) Government bonds on the London Exchange for 0.005p. Face value 100GBP.
The Soviet Government had to purchase or redeem them before they could re enter western capital markets. They began repurchasing the bonds, and the final ones were redeemed at approx 50GBP.
