Let’s look at it this way. They got approval in April 2023. By their own estimates construction was going to take about 18 months - time enough for them to complete all their management plans required in the consent. So they would be starting around now I reckon.
According to the Optimisation study the footprint of the site has been reduced by about 27%, they now have a dry stack TSF, the extraction of silver has been simplified and they are using diesel generators in the construction phase. So these changes may make a difference to the construction timeline. And who knows, they may be able to use an alternative power source and not need the 66kv transmission line.
But it’s not going to “here’s approval, BAM! start drilling”.
I want them to succeed, it’s good for the area and the silver is needed. This is the most scrutinised project ever and the only thing stopping it was an approval process for the transmission line endorsed by the Department and used by many other projects. All because of a handful of NIMBYS.
