What an absolute nothing announcement… we already knew this.
What we need to know is if the existing EIS is suffice to re-submit as is or if it needs to be updated to be inclusive of new baseline monitoring data and a new round of community / stakeholder consultation. The later is potentially problematic for a number of reasons, including extended timeframe and cash burn. I wish they would elaborate on exactly what the ‘clear pathway’ looks like in terms of the EIS requirements.
Also, regardless of whether or not the new laws allow the power supply to be assessed separately to the ‘Project EIS’, it would be great if the company could provide assurances that they at least have a feasible plan for power supply.
Hopefully the ‘optimisation study’ announcement provides something more concrete.
