I haven't been as deep as @Megafauna but I have been down a few mines when I was doing geology in school. Eerie feeling watching a hole as big as a small block of units turn into just a pin prick of light before finally disappearing if you go down one with a straight mine shaft.
You'd probably get used to it real quick but doing anything like that for the first time is a weird/exciting feeling.
