As most know, DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) funded James Tour & Rice Uni to look into critical metal recovery from electronic scrap. Specifically they were targeting Gallium, Indium & Tantalum. They approached them around October 2022 & funded 18 months of research. Rice Uni did it in 15 months (around Jan 2024) and the results were very successful, I’ve pasted the results table from the video below - remembering this was using Lab scale equipment not the Prototype. Also interesting all the scale-ups had the same purity & mostly the same yield. The DoD have put over $4m into Rice Uni (though some may have been for earlier Graphene FJH ??).

We exercised our option to acquire the FJH technology in March 2024 and the prototype was completed in April 2024.

My point is, DARPA have already spent $4m on this technology, funded Rice Uni to see if they could extract these 3 metals from scrap. These are 3 metals the Chinese control & have cut the US off from. The FJH exceeded their requirements - passed the test, so you’d assume there will be a follow up in funding to go to the next step. We now own that technology so I’d say there is a very big chance we’ll get funding from DARPA especially as our partner Indium Corp has provided a letter of support.
