The wife (works in paediatric oncology) was just telling me about a recent story of an 11yr old girl in with Osteosarcoma she was treating, After stints of chemo she unfortunately died of a heart attack before reaching remission. 11yrs old!
It brought up countless stories where patients would be transferred to the cardiac ward following treatments, on going ECG and a raft of tests even once the cancer was gone. They have other specialised clinics designed just for the long term effects after chemo.
One of the oncologists mentioned it’s not necessarily anything to do with age, or compounded treatments, heart damage starts from the moment anthracylines hit the heart.
I don’t think the market has truely grasped how big this discovery is, but the doctors & physicians & ultimately pharma that understand and deal with this problem every day, certainly will.
