Hi guys, sorry if I'm being particularly obtuse here, but on the face of it, this table looks to show that Bisantrene is actually damaging the heart as in almost all cases the cardiac ejection function is worse after treatment with Bisantrene.
However, I assume that the postulation is that the cardiac ejection function may have been even worse if they were not treated with Bisantrene due to the ongoing deterioration caused by prior doxorubicin treatment. This postulation is evidenced by the trends that Mason pointed out that show both an improving trend in overall cardiac ejection and a reduced decline in cardiac ejection over time with increasing Bisantrene dose.
This would imply that the heart damage caused by anthracycline treatment doesn't stop getting worse once the treatment stops, but that the heart continues to deteriorate over time following completion of treatment.
Do I have that all correct? Thanks.
PS. Is that possibly an example of Simpson's paradox?
