Akida 2 was always in the works as an improvement to the first iteration and to secure market leadership.
Mercedes, NASA, Intel, Sifive, Megachips, Valeo, and 7 other partners sure could see the value in version 1.
Version 2 is the kicking of the dust in the face of competitors IMO
