I spoke at length with Ian Warland yesterday at the Brisbane conference. He felt the need to announce the diamond drill scissor holes even without assays because of the significance to interpretation and to ensure an informed market as soon as possible.
He didn't seem to think there was a problem with the drill locations or samples. Two possibilities were being considered. Firstly that the zone is narrow but the RC hole deviated downwards and drilled down the zone. Alternatively that the mineralised zones are like rungs of a ladder running at a high angle to the strike of the zone being drilled, perhaps between two parallel faults that trend along strike. This means that the diamond core might not match the RC if it was between rungs of the ladder and the RC may have drilled down a rung giving the intersection. SXG have a gold deposit like this in Victoria and some good diagrams explaining it on recent presentations.
Ian believes the RC [email protected]% copper is too good to walk away without adequate explanation but won't throw silly amounts at working it out. Perhaps a hole parallel to strike or downhole geophysics to investigate after the current drilling has been completed (presuming it does not provide the answers).
