What's your source for the 80:20? Not saying it isn't but I haven't been able to find an updated list so it would be handy.
I never said SAMR isn't rigged, but guess what? Until recently the USA has been virtually 100% beholden to domestic producers. Even now as far as I am aware none of the temporarily authorised foreign brands have recieved permanent access, and tariffs remain high on foreign IF. In short it is a far far less open market than China is and you are kidding yourself if you think otherwise.
It is also a cop out to say SAMR is based on politics alone. Having connections is necessary but it is never going to be sufficient. SAMR is not going to approve a product that does not meet its requirements in terms of ingredients, quality, labeling etc. as they ultimately fear more contamination scandals like Abbott in the US or the original melamine scandal in China. Companies like Bellamy's (and I suspect BUB as well) fall short on both being able to meet SAMR requirements (such as demonstrating traceability in the supply chain) AND having the connections needed.
