I think for the authority; it would be considered an exploration well and then production well.

But for the industry, it is easy to infer the sand that was shifted upward by some 80 metres, by a faulting, does contain oil. Hence being treated as an appraisal well.

After all, the sand is the same sand as below it, which contained oil

And oil migrate upward. This means if oil was located in the lower sand (BHP discovery), it is very likely to be located in the upper sand.

Further, the previous discovery by BHP of the lower sand, did not find a gas cap. To me, this means BHP did not drill to the CREST of the structure, where most of the hydrocarbons should be located!!!

So its likely the attic sand (where the crest should be) will have the gas cap and then oil

Of course, this is just my own opinion.

And its why I am very confident about Buffalo.

For me, the issue is how much is there.

Hi If the Lower sands are still feeding the Upper sand OR is the Upper sand Replenishing the OIL in the lower sands That BHP has already produced . Their wells were still flowing at 4000 Barrels Per Day . I have suggested before Re Enter those old wells as a Cheap Startup Cheers Towie
