It’s not fear, it’s called “range anxiety”.
Agree they are not well suited to interstate travel in Australia, but then how many one car households are there and how many of them regularly do long/interstate trips. The better ranges now coming out would work well for most urban dwellers even in Australia. Nothing to stop one hiring an ICE for an occasional long road trip, many ICE city cars are not well suited to comfortable do long road trips either.
