The Russians have been there since the cold war, just making trouble and selling weapons to secure supplies of resources to exploit from corrupt failed states, so just military colonialism by another name under the banner of socialism first and now pretending to assist the fight against islamic extremists. The Chinese are there for the resources and have identified that brown paper bags full of money are how resources can be extracted.
What will actually happen will be that corrupt politicians in African juristictions will spirit away the gold and trade gold away for weapons/luxury goods and real estate in Europe, with the Russians and Chinese getting the gold cheap and the local population not seeing any of the benefits of government ownership, any tax or royalty revenue from gold mining.
Any other outcome is naive and wishful thinking and flies in the face of historical precedent. Any local politician who doesn't play the game will have Wagner knocking on their door, any potential whistleblowers will have the same fate.
