I think the main reason SPT didn't take off is because merchants won't get paid in full upfront. Cash is needed to restock; no one wants to be paid in installments, except maybe service providers but definitely not retailers. SPT provided a service for full reimbursement through two third parties collecting their own commission, and looking at the whole process IMO it became too messy and complicated. The nail on the coffin was when Visa announced it would provide the same service and with SPT fully dependent on Visa (and other credit card providers) the market panicked and sold it off.
Afterpay and Quickfee pay in full. As long as the service providers are happy to promote Quickfee, it should be successful. It's appearing so from the traction over the last 2 years (in the US)
